Tar Roof Gardens est. in 2008 is a rooftop container garden of flowers, vegetables and herbs high above Newark’s city streets and is home to artist Tara Russo. Since its beginning it has quickly become an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Tara to explore photography and the site specific series In Urban Zen. The photos from Tar Roof Gardens started as a documentation of all the plants at different stages of their development and during different times of day. Shedding natural light, The Super Saturated Light series goes a step further by pushing levels and effects resulting in the creation of a fantastical world whose manipulation of bold color, whiting out and blurred abstraction is more akin to painting than photography.
